- Measles is a virus
- An individual may take up to 10-14 days after exposure to measles before they develop symptoms
- Usually first signs and symptoms: high fever
- Fever comes before the rash
- Patients are typically contagious-4 days before the rash & 4 days after rash develops (CDC)
- Encephalitis can lead to brain damage
- Measles is extremely contagious. Per CDC, it can actually stay in air up to 2 hours after the person who has the measles, leaves the room
- Airborne precautions are used for patient with measles
- MMR vaccination helps prevent Measles. It is a weakened live virus vaccination
- MMR is given between 12-15 months and 4-6 years old
