OTHER INFO ABOUT MEASLES:

  • Measles is a virus
  • An individual may take up to 10-14 days after exposure to measles before they develop symptoms
  • Usually first signs and symptoms: high fever
  • Fever comes before the rash
  • Patients are typically contagious-4 days before the rash & 4 days after rash develops (CDC)
  • Encephalitis can lead to brain damage
  • Measles is extremely contagious. Per CDC, it can actually stay in air up to 2 hours after the person who has the measles, leaves the room
  • Airborne precautions are used for patient with measles
  • MMR vaccination helps prevent Measles. It is a weakened live virus vaccination
  • MMR is given between 12-15 months and 4-6 years old
