Fast Facts: Levophed Drip (Norepinephrine)

Acute Hypotension Dose: (1)

Initial: 8-12 mcg/min IV infusion; titrate to effect

Maintenance: 2-4 mcg/min IV infusion

It helps raise the blood pressure in emergent situations

Central line is preferred. Can potentially cause tissue necrosis in areas where extravasation happens

Can potentially decrease perfusion to the kidney

Blood glucose can increase

This type of drip is not to be used when there is significant hypoxia or hypercarbia
