NCLEX & OTHER TEST TAKING TIPS:

  • Know signs and symptoms of rhabdomyolysis:
    • Ex: Myalgias, tea colored urine, elevated CK level, Renal failure
  • Know meds that increase risk to develop Rhabdo. while on a statin:
    • Ex: Gemfibrizol (fibrate)-also often given for lipid lowering
    • Ex: Amlodipine
  • Know how statins should be taken:
    • Ex: Best in pm
    • Ex: Avoid taking with grapefruit juice
  • Know potential affects on lab values:
    • Ex: Increased A1C, ALT, AST
    • Ex: If taking coumadin- INR may increase= increased risk for bleed
