  • It is imperative that all healthcare providers ask this questions prior to administer.
  • Can cause facial flushing, abdomen pain, cramps, nausea, vomiting, headache, hypotension, tachycardia, liver damage, difficulties breathing, heart attack, convulsion
  • In the ER I have actually seen some provider prescribe this without asking this question first. This is a major concern.


NURSING STUDENT TIP:

  • Flagyl should not be given if patient says that they have had any alcohol 3 days prior.
  • These individuals should also avoid any alcohol consumption after Flagyl use (for at least 3 days after the last dose).
  • Make sure to chart that you asked and educated about this.
