NCLEX TIPS ABOUT AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES:
- Have an idea about clinical manifestations of specific autoimmune diseases (ex: Lupus: butterfly rash on face)
- Know activities, lifestyle choices that make certain autoimmune diseases flare (ex: stressors, smoking, sunlight, etc..). The example we have here is- sunlight can cause lupus to flare
- Know any special tests/labs to help diagnose general autoimmune disease (ex: Lupus: ANA)
- Know patient teaching ideas & interventions.
- Know common abnormal labs that may be seen with a certain autoimmune disease
- Know common physical exam findings
- Know certain meds that are contraindicated in certain autoimmune diseases (example: Myasthenia Gravis-avoid macrolides)
ADVANCED PRACTICE-WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
- 1st,2nd, 3rd line treatment for autoimmune disease
- What tests and labs to order to confirm an autoimmune disease
- Differential diagnosis list
- What to educate the patient regarding their disease
- Know possible complications from autoimmune diseases and how these complications are managed
- Have an idea of who is at risk for different autoimmune diseases
- Know potential causes for these autoimmune diseases
- Know commonly abnormal labs seen in autoimmune diseases
