  • Eating purine rich foods can cause elevated uric acid level.
  • High uric acid can build up and eventually develop painful crystals in joints.
  • A patient with gout should avoid purine containing foods.
  • High purine foods include: red meats, sardines, scallops, bacon, organ meats, pork, high fructose foods, lobster, shrimp, tuna, mackerel, beer, mussels, sweet breads, foods with yeast.
